Additional modules

At this stage the SOT Linux 2003 Installer attempts to detect your computer's hardware configuration and installs any required drivers, or modules. These modules enable Linux to communicate with your computer's special devices, for example PCMCIA cards or SCSI drives.

Installed modules are shown at the bottom of the screen. The SOT Linux 2003 installer automatically installs modules for any devices it finds. If you need to install a device manually, choose the type of device from the pull-down menus at the top of the screen. Then locate your particular model from the list and select it by clicking on the module name with your left mouse button. Press the INSTALL MODULE button to add support for the device to your SOT Linux installation. If the PROBE MODULE check box is selected the installer will attempt to probe your device for further information.

The list of installed modules appears in the bottom window.

To uninstall a driver, click on the module name in the lower window and press the REMOVE MODULE button.

Options

Some modules can be given special options that change how your device interacts with SOT Linux. For example, the lp module, which is used to enable support for parallel port printers takes has two options:

If you click on a module in the lower window, and the OPTIONS button changes from gray to solid, then options may be set for that module. Clicking the OPTIONS button brings up a window where the available options are listed. You may enter the module options manually, or select an pre-defined ones from the pull-down menu. Click the HELP button for a brief description of the available options for the selected module.
